Yogyakarta “Ways Fwd” is an interdisciplinary art project researching and experimenting with artistic-activist approaches that could contribute to addressing sustainability issues in today’s ecological crisis. Its program in Indonesia is focusing on the potential of working together, or as it is called in Indonesian: bersama2.

What have we worked on together? Discussions with university students about art and ecology, installations and workshop materials that focus on the problem of air pollution and the potential of plants in its remediation.

20th Anniversary of HONF Foundation
1999 – 2019

January – March : Incubation
April – December : Activities, Events, and Festivals

HONF Foundation evolved from a media arts center to open culture and technology laboratory with complex network of relations to the formal and informal institutions of knowledge, but also local and global open communities. Creative practitioners of different backgrounds, including artists, scientist, activists, designers, hackers, makers, etc involved at HONF’s projects and demonstrate how science and technology are used to respond to various local challenges and critical issues. The scientific research from different disciplines is transformed into public interactive works using DIY (Do It Yourself) and DIWO (Do It With Others) methods, which have aesthetic as well as educational and social goals. HONF also functions as a cultural laboratory connected to similar networks both regionally and globally and working under their own curriculum called Education Focus Program.

In the beginning… HONF itself since 1999 concentrating on the principles of critique and innovation. Thinking forward, positivity and creativity have become the vision for HONF. In the implementation of this vision, in every program, they work towards the development of art, science and technology for the society. By this vision HONF initiated Education Focus Program (EFP), a curriculum which acts as the guideline for every HONF activity that is created to respond to the global situations and conditions in Indonesia. EFP concentrates on interdisciplinary knowledge exchanges and collaborations in critical analysis towards local and global issues and creating innovative ideas to seek solutions for them. EFP’s main objective is to build a modern mind and mentality of society by bridging art, science and technology that is useful in processing local potentials into beneficial outputs for the society based on human uses and urgent needs.

SETI 2018

POSTER

SETI: Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligent …
It is an effort to detect evidence of technological civilizations that may exist elsewhere in the universe, particularly in our galaxy.

An International SETI Conference #03 2018
Evolution of The Unknown – To Be or Not To Be Signaling the Aliens ?

SYMPOSIUM

is a symposium which invites participants whose work is on the horizon of the known, from various fields, across science, the arts, astrophysics, astronomy, space science, humanities and other less traditional fields of study. We come together to share our experiences of confronting the unknown, and the impact of the unknown on culture and imagination. Participants are also encouraged to bring any experiments or works they have made that may create encounters with the unknown, in a form that others may interact with. It will also be an opportunity for an experiment in the unknown that will be run during the symposium, with participation from attendees.

XPLORE Showcase Exhibition

In response to the emerging field of new media art scene in Indonesia, ARCOLABS and HONF launch XPLORE New Media Art Incubation, a program designed to support today’s generation of artists by equipping them with the skills and networks needed to contribute solutions to current and future challenge. For this year, we seek to discover ways to create social impact and bring changes into the society through the works and practices of three young artists:

– M. Hafiz @havizmaha (Jakarta)
– Mira Rizki Kurnia @mirarizkik (Bandung)
– Chalida Asawakanjanakit @asawach(Bangkok)

Following the workshops in Jakarta and FabCamp in Yogyakarta, each artist will #xplore various topics from city life to art education through interactive installations and participatory artworks. Come, enjoy, and wonder in the first XPLORE showcase on 13-26 July at @honf_lab, Yogyakarta!

ALEXANDRA ZEDTWITZ – EXPLORASI

ALEXANDRA ZEDTWITZ – EXPLORASI
The exhibition of Austrian artist Alexandra Zedtwitz, deals with the topic of exploration.
It consists of two parts: a series of polaroids arranged in diptych compositions and a tableau vivant.
For the tableau vivant the artist collaborated with local Santi Gallery to create seven outfits made out of handwoven Lurik fabric.
Alexandra Zedtwitz is a designer and photographer.
Her pictures are soft and clear, asyndetic and calm.
Natural special effects, ephemeral and transitional situations framed in minimalist compositions and clean colours.
She describes an unaltered image between fiction and documentation. Her focus lies on instant film.
There is no negative, only a positive, which has physically been present at the depicted scene.
The material is strong. Between the layers the atmosphere is captured and every picture is unique.
It’s depth adds a mystic quality to the image.
Alexandra Zedtwitz lives and works in Vienna

SPATIAL

SPATIAL | vision, imagination and reality
A drawing exhibition

What if the human eye doesn’t actually ever create a true image of what we see, instead generating an abstract version of physical reality?
This exhibition will present the relationship between vision, imagination and reality that sits at the cross-roads between science, psychology and art.
